Caring for the Body God Has Given

Sport is an important part of college life. We believe that children should learn to care not only for their minds and spirits, but also for their physical health. Through a variety of sporting activities, we encourage children to be active and to recognise their responsibility to care for the bodies God has given them through regular exercise, physical exertion and the development of strength and stamina.

Healthy Competition

01

Striving for Excellence

We believe that healthy competition can help children strive for excellence and learn to give their best. Competition provides valuable opportunities to develop perseverance, resilience, self-discipline and sportsmanship, while learning to appreciate both personal achievement and the success of others.

Fair Teams, Real Contests

We regularly organise team sports in which there will inevitably be winners and losers. We take care in forming teams so that each student has a fair opportunity to compete and win. In doing so, students learn how to respond graciously to both victory and defeat.

“Learning to win with humility and to lose with grace is an important part of character formation.”

These are valuable skills not only in sport, but throughout life.

Aerobic Fitness

Healthy Hearts and Lungs

We place particular emphasis on aerobic activities that promote healthy hearts and lungs. Cardiovascular and respiratory diseases are among the major causes of death in the UK, particularly in later life. Regular aerobic exercise also helps children to develop coordination, endurance, resilience and self-discipline.

We want our students to understand the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle throughout their lives, particularly in a society where increasingly sedentary habits can contribute to poor physical health.

Formation

Discipline and Self-Mastery

Cultivating physical strength, self-control, and lifelong habits of endurance.

  • Habits of Self-Mastery

Regular physical activity helps children cultivate habits of discipline and self-mastery that directly reinforce their broader moral and personal formation.

  • Physical Courage

We build an attitude of perseverance and courage, urging students to overcome laziness and take full stewardship of their physical health.

  • Varied Discipline

Students participate in a broad spectrum of sports, including hockey, athletics, cross-country running, swimming, football, and basketball.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”
