English Language
Language with Purpose
Language as a Powerful Tool
Language is a very powerful tool that ought to be developed by everyone to transmit God’s truth and beauty in the context of a fallen world. In order to foster a love of language, Jesus College combines a Classical method of learning with the “problem before tool” model. Rather than learning about language, we ask students from a very young age to use their language for a specific purpose.
The Termly Magazine
In practice, this means that students produce written works for our termly magazine, which you are welcome to download from our Publications page.
The Green Hill Anthology
Students also write for our annual Green Hill Anthology, published yearly and available on Amazon.
Publication as Incentive
Real readers give students a real reason to improve.
-
Language With a Purpose
Students use their language for a specific purpose from a very young age, rather than simply learning about it.
-
Striving for Print
Students strive to have their best work in print, and thus push themselves to hone their language skills naturally.
-
Ready for GCSE and A Level
Our English courses are also optimised to maximise students’ performance at GCSE and A Level.
Publication is great incentivisation – students strive to have their best work in print, and thus push themselves to hone their language skills naturally.
